Ref-U Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 23, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what information Ref-U ("Ref-U," "we," "us," or "our") collects when you use the Ref-U mobile application (the "App"), how we use it, and what choices you have. By using the App, you agree to the practices described here.

Who Operates Ref-U

Ref-U is operated by MHG Sports 34, LLC, a Delaware limited liability company.

Age Requirements

You must be at least 13 years old to use Ref-U. The App also contains a separate area called "Speakeasy" — an 18-and-over chat space — which is only accessible after you confirm your date of birth during onboarding and it indicates you are 18 or older. Age is self-reported; Ref-U does not verify identity or age through a government ID or other independent source.

Information We Collect

Optional account

Creating an account is optional. If you choose to create one, you can use Sign in with Apple or an email address and password. We then store your email address (with Sign in with Apple, this may be a private relay address Apple provides) and, if Apple shares it, your name. Passwords are handled by our authentication provider, Supabase, and are never stored in readable form. You can delete your account at any time in the App (Profile tab, settings, "Delete Account").

Anonymous device identity

You can also use Ref-U without an account. In either case, the App generates a random device identifier ("device ID") stored on your device and used to associate your activity across features. Paired with this device ID, we store:

Date of birth

During onboarding, you enter your date of birth so the App can determine whether you meet the 13+ minimum age and the 18+ threshold for Speakeasy. Your date of birth is stored locally on your device only — it is not transmitted to or stored on Ref-U's servers.

Content you post

Ref-U includes features where you can post content visible to other users, associated with your device ID and display handle (not your real identity, unless you have set your handle to include it):

This content is visible to other users of the App as part of how these features work, and is not private.

Push notifications

If you enable notifications, we store your device's push notification token and your notification preferences (e.g., which categories of alerts you want) so we can deliver them.

Device permissions

The App's underlying configuration requests camera, photo library, and microphone access. As of this version of the App, none of these are actually used by any feature — these permissions were reserved for planned functionality (such as photo-based avatars) that has not been built. If that changes, this policy will be updated first, and the App will only request the permission at the time it is actually needed.

What we do not collect

Ref-U does not currently integrate any analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting SDK. We do not collect precise location data. We do not use cookies (this is a mobile app, not a website).

How We Use Information

How Information Is Shared

We do not sell your information. Information is shared only in these ways:

Your Choices

Resetting your identity

Account Settings includes a "Reset Data" option that rotates your device to a brand-new, unconnected identity (new device ID, handle, and avatar; your stored date of birth is cleared). Content you already posted under your old identity (chat messages, comments, votes) is not deleted and remains visible under your old handle — resetting creates a new identity going forward, it does not erase the past.

Requesting deletion of your data

You can delete the data associated with your device ID directly in the App: open Account Settings and select "Delete My Data." This immediately and permanently removes your device ID's data from our systems — no email or waiting period required. If you're unable to access the App, you can also reach us at contact@ref-u.com to request deletion.

Children's Privacy

Ref-U is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. The onboarding date-of-birth entry is designed to prevent this, but is self-reported and not independently verified.

Data Security

We use reasonable technical measures to protect information stored in our systems. Account sign-in sessions are stored in your device's secure keychain. If you use Ref-U without an account, your device ID is the basis of your identity in the App, so please treat "Reset Data" as your primary tool if you believe your identity has been compromised on a shared or lost device.

Your Privacy Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal information we hold about you. Because Ref-U's identity model is built around an anonymous device ID rather than named accounts, some requests may be limited to what can be tied to your specific device ID. Contact us using the information below to make a request.

International Users

Ref-U is operated from the United States. If you use the App from outside the United States, your information will be processed in the United States.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above.
